Setting up MFA from the Authenticator App
Why is this needed?
Microsoft is phasing out text and call options for login security, and moving everyone to the Authenticator app. It’s not something we can override - it’s part of a wider security upgrade that affects all organisations using Microsoft services and we’re required to comply.
The app is free, lightweight, and respects your privacy - it doesn’t store personal data or track your activity. It provides a secure and unobtrusive way to enable multi-factor authentication on your personal phone, and can be removed if you leave the company.
What do I do?
- Download the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device.
You can use the links below to find the correct app.
Apple Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/microsoft-authenticator/id983156458
Android Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.azure.authenticator&hl=en-US
-
Once downloaded, open the app and tap on + symbol top right:

-
Pick the Work or School Accountoption and then Sign In:

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the sign-in process. You may be asked to verify your identity using multi-factor authentication (MFA).
-
Once you get to the step below, pick the Skip option and confirm it. The Authenticator setup is now complete. You do not need to register your device.
